How the Markusnet has been used in man over board rescue operations

The Markusnet is a proven lifesaver: it has played the major role in numerous difficult rescue operations where over hundred lives were saved, often at the last second, when other traditional means have failed!

*

We had tried everything when we at last remembered that we had the Markusnet and then…… (this was in the early days of the Markusnet) The Kampen accident.

*

We had just brought the Markusnet on board and I did not know anything about it, but it made the single handed rescue possible.

*

I would not be here if they had not managed to lower the Markusnet down to me in time, said the harbour master when he had been rescued from ice pit in Isafjordur harbour.

*

It was the only safe way to rescue the crew said the captain of Ólafur Bjarnason, when his crew managed to lift 7 casualties from liferaft into their vessel in hazardous situation at sea.

*

I had twice been rescued with the Markusnet myself so I had a unit in my small deck boat although it was not required and with that Markusnet I managed to complete single handed in-water rescue of unconscious in-water casualty.

Report of a rescue of a dog with Markusnet

Markusnets are now providing realistic man overboard rescue possibilities in most harbours and on board all deck vessels over 15 metre length in Iceland. They are onboard all types of deck vessels, such as the navy and coastguard vessels, research vessels, cargo vessels and tankers, passanger vessels, tug boats and fishing vessels all over the world, providing the same security.

The Markusnet is unique in the sence, that it is the only available man overboard rescue tool, that is designed mainly to use from the deck boat, ship and offshore installation, when rendering manual help to a man overboard. Markusnets have often made the difference at the last seconds, when other lifesaving appliances have failed.

As such it is a must on board every deck vessel aiming for total man overboard safety and rescue .

Provide your crew the possibility to react safely to a man overboard situation and train themselves as man overboard rescue team on board your vessel.

The instructions attached to this page are based on some of the actual rescue stories mentioned here above.
